1. Canteen on Clifton Street
40 Clifton Street, Cardiff, CF24 1LR.
If you want high quality food at value for money prices, and, more importantly, the tastiest flavours from around the world, head down to the Canteen. It changes its menus regularly – the evening menu changes completely every three to four weeks so you can become regulars without having to pick the same meal every visit.
Tastebud tickler: Start with a paneer and spinach curry with peshwari-style roti, followed by Italian filo pie, sweetcorn mask, pepperonata and salsa verde and sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and ice-cream. Yum.
2. The Riverside Cafe
Adpar, Newcastle Emlyn.
Newcastle Emlyn’s vegetarian cafe run by Hazel and her gang from the Riverside Health Food Shop is a must visit. All the food is prepared on the premises so all diets can be catered for. It’s a lovely homely cafe with friendly and helpful staff and if the sun’s shining you can even sit out and enjoy the views of the River Teifi.
Tastebud tickler: Their delicious vegan flapjack or delicately moist vegan chocolate cake are amazing.
3. Vegetarian Food Studio:
115-117 Penarth Road, Cardiff, CF11 6JU
This is a completely vegetarian restaurant (pictured, above) with plenty of vegan dishes. It’s another one that offers authentic taste of India by using fresh vegetables, herbs and spices to create unique vegetarian dishes. There are starters, smaller plates and Bombay snacks as well as oriental dishes
Tastebud tickler: Chutney Dosa: Crispy rice and lentil pancake filled with dry potato curry, served with a fresh mint, coriander and garlic chutney and sambar (red lentil soup).
4. Govindas Vegetarian and Vegan Café
8 Cradock St, Swansea,SA1 3EN
They have a good range of authentic Indian recipes with a full and varied menu. There are plenty of options for vegans too.
Tastebud ticklers: Start with a vegetable subji, basmati rice and Dahl bowl, followed by the classic veggie nut burger and chips (which is proper, old-fashioned comfort food) and then try the famous Govinda’s Cheesecake.
5. The Fig Tree
The Esplanade, Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, CF64 3AU
If you want to go to a restaurant that serves meat and fish, but you want a vegetarian option, this restaurant (pictured above) has fantastic, tasty options and offers far more than the staple vegetarian options.
Tastebud tickler: Moroccan Bean & Winter Vegetable Tagine: Tomato, garlic, sweet potato, pumpkin, carrots, parsnip, cinnamon, nutmeg and apricot topped with an almond cous cous crust.

This is an Asian mini-market and a great veggie cafe too. Madhav brings a vegetarian twist to the classic Indian restaurant. Serving a delightful menu of dishes created using only the freshest produce.
Tastebud tickler: Thali special and potato balls (that includes vegetable curry, dahl, rice, two different types of vegetables in spiced sauces, a potato fritter, chutney and jalebi.)
7. Falafel Wales
122 Cowbridge Road East, Canton, Cardiff CF11 9DX
The restaurant serves Lebonese and Middle Eastern food such as popular kachorys – an Indian and Pakistani snack. These are sweet and spicy, made with beans, gram flour and chillis.
Tastebud tickler: Go for the koshary – a very popular Egyptian recipe which consists of Egyptian rice, brown lentils, pasta noodles, served with tomato sauce and topped with crispy onions.
8. Tremeifion Vegetarian and Vegan Hotel
Tremeifion, Soar Road, Talsarnau, Gwynedd, North Wales, LL47 6UH.
Why not a make a night of it and stay in the pretty hotel, in a setting characterised by the majesty of the National Park and the Snowdonia mountains. Their aim is to provide varied, interesting, nutritionally useful , well-cooked meals.

9. Waverley Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant
23 Lammas Street, Carmarthen.
The on site vegetarian restaurant is the perfect place to sit back and relax after you’ve finished shopping in the store. Choose from the tasty vegetarian menu, including teas, coffees and cakes made freshly each day.

10. The Cosy Club, Cardiff

This central Cardiff restaurant caters for vegans with its one menu so there is plenty of choice for those wanting to opt out of eating meat, fish or dairy products.
Tastebud tickler: Bean Burger: Spiced home-made vegetable and bean burger, red onion marmalade, tomato and pickle in a toasted sourdough bun with house salad and skin-on fries.
