Vegan News – PETA gives Firefighters Cookies for Saving Fish

May 06–BANGOR, Maine — The city’s fire department is receiving a Compassionate Fire Department Award from PETA for their efforts in saving a young boy’s fish in a recent fire.

When the boy realized his fish was still inside a burning home at Highland Court last week, firefighters rushed inside to recover the soot-covered tank.

The fish survived with no injuries.

“Fish feel pain, just as dogs, cats and humans do — and thanks to these firefighters, this fish escaped the burning home unharmed,” PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien said in a statement. “PETA hopes their kindness and determination will inspire others to come to the aid of animals in need, whether they have fur or fins.”

The Bangor Fire Department will receive a box of vegan cookies, a framed certificate and a copy of “The Engine 2 Diet” — a Texas firefighter’s 28-day plan for staying in shape by eating a vegan-based diet — for their efforts.
